Haussner puts on a show at the Polar League track meet

Jack Haussner swept three events, the 110-meter high hurdles, the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash, and placed second in the long jump at the May 15 Polar League track meet held at Esko.

Haussner long jumped 19-10, two inches off the mark of the first place leap.

Jack ran the 100-meters in 11.79. Two eighth-graders, Haddon Taylor and Kyler Hansen, ran the 100-meters in 16.60 and 16.71 seconds.

Jack was more than half a second ahead of the field in the 110-meter high hurdles, clocking 16 seconds flat.

In the 200-meters, Jack broke the tape with a time of 23.86 seconds. Eighth-grader Ben Rex ran a great time for a junior high boy by clocking 27.76 seconds. Raymond Degroat ran 32.14.

Rex ran 64.49 in the 400- meters with Tanner DeBoer crossing the line in 65.77 and Haddon Taylor finishing in 78.37 seconds.

Senior Will Surbaugh placed third in the 1600- meter run with a time of 4:43.30. Will took fifth in the 800-meter race with a 2:09.73 clocking.

Sophomore Kevin Viren has been knocking on the door to break five minutes in the 1600-meter run and he got ever so close with his sixth-place finish of 5:00.67. Keegan Morrison ran 5:47.83 in the 1600-meter run to place 22nd.

Sophomore Raymond Degroat threw the shot put 27 feet, 4 inches and the discus 73 feet taking 22nd and 24th in those events.

Brayden Schmidt, a seventh grader, finished the 3200-meter run in 12:33.84 for 12th place and eighth-grader TJ Surbaugh crossed the line in 13:55.82 to take 14th.

The boys’ 4×100 meter relay team finished eighth with a time of 64.72. In the 4×400 meter relay the boys’ team finished 10th with a time of 4:17.29, and the boys finished sixth in the 4×800 meter relay with a time of 10:09.09.

Girls

Freshman Molly LaVigne took fourth place in the 400- meter dash with a time of 67.23. LaVigne also placed sixth in the 100-meter dash in 13.95.

Anna Hay, a freshman, took 11th in the 100-meters with a time of 14.48 and junior Ellen Callender ran 15.54 to place 21.

Sophomore Malin Anderson paced eighth in the 800-meter run in 2:45.30. Eighth-grader Sammie Garrity finished 18th in 3:06.97 and freshman Cece Chmelik was 20th place with a time of 3:22.53.

Sophomore Hailey Smith placed 13th in the discus with a throw of 67 feet. She threw the shot put 26 feet, 2 inches.

Robin Henrikson, a junior, took 13th place in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 61.55. Aurora Schelmeske placed 19th in 76.85.

The girls’ 4×100 meter relay placed eighth in 60.51. The 4×400 meter relay team finished seventh in 5:12.18 and the girls’ 4×800 meter relay team took third place with a time of 11:17.93.

Senior Claire LaVigne placed ninth in the 1600- meter run with a time of 6:06.15. Sophomore Louise Ramberg placed 12th in 6:28.39 and Cece Chmelik took 19th in 6:48.28.

Eighth-grader Kylie Viren ran the 3200 meters in 14:46.74 to take 11th.
