Senator Grant Hauschild (DFL— Hermantown) announced Monday evening that he delivered a total of $15,297,196 for Cook County in the FY 24-25 state budget.

“With the departure of the U.S. Coast Guard, the funding for emergency personnel and equipment was a critical priority for me this legislative session,” said Hauschild. “With a partnership between the Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and Cook County, I’m confident the $3.124 Million will provide the necessary funds for the safe patrol along the northernmost shore.”

Senator Hauschild said he delivered funding for the following projects in Cook County:

$6 Million for the 1854 Treaty Area Agreement.

$3 Million for Coast Guard Equipment.

$4 Million bond for Gitchi Gami State Trail.

$200,000 in LCCMR for Grand Marais Mountain Bike Trail.

$700,000 to the Cook County Historical Society.

$290,000 for a Grand Portage Emergency Management Coordinator.

As the only freshman member of the Taxes Committee, Hauschild worked diligently and in a bipartisan fashion to secure increased levels of County Program Aid (CPA), Local Government Aid (LGA), Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILT), and public safety funding in an effort to reduce property taxes for hardworking Minnesotans.

Cook County CPA: $676,798 ($158,681 increase).

City of Grand Marais LGA: $79,714 ($29,268 increase).

Cook County PILT: $210,257 increase.
