It was a great and glorious day for thirty Cook County High School seniors who received their high school diplomas at the CCHS Commencement Ceremony held in the Pam Taylor gymnasium on Saturday, May 28, 2022.

Band Director Amanda Engstrom got things started by leading the band in playing “Pomp and Circumstance.”

Next, Superintendent Christopher Lindholm welcomed the guests, parents, and families on hand to see the kids graduate. He introduced the school board members and then offered some advice to the 112th graduating class at Cook County High, telling the kids, “Shoot for the moon and make a positive lasting impact.”

Principal Megan Myers thanked the staff and teachers for their hard work and efforts. After all, in addition to the normal rigors of a school year it was another year where school district had to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.

The band played “The Mandalorian,” followed by short speeches from Salutatorian Cecelia Chmelik and Valedictorian Jacob Dorr. Finally, two guest speakers, special education teacher Melissa Oberg and science teacher Chad Benesh spoke about seeing the kids transform into young adults before their eyes, wishing them hope and a “can do” spirit as they move into adulthood.

Senior Greta Roth sang “I’ll Always Remember You” while being accompanied by her mother on piano, sister on drums, and father on guitar.

Senior Molly LaVigne presented the always favorite “Senior Slide Show” which was accompanied by a lot of enthusiastic cheering and clapping. Then, with High School English Teacher Michael McHugh reading off the kids names who came up front to get their diplomas, Superintendent Lindholm, Principal Megan Myers, the school board, and Grand Portage Tribal member April McCormick shook the kid’s hands and gave out hugs to the new graduates.

Principal Myers presented the class of 2022, and then kids moved their tassels and threw their hats in the air signifying the end of high school.

While the kids left the gym, the band played the Recessional.

During the ceremony Emmalli Myers, Kate Peck, Paul Dorr, and Kyler Hansen were junior class ushers.

A parade through town followed and ended at the Artist Point/Coast Guard parking lot. One chapter of their lives over, the class of 2022 was on their way to another, more significant, more exciting chapter, full of hope and promise, ready to work hard to build their future. Congratulations to the class of 2022!
