Harry Nathan Lamson





 

 

Harry Nathan Lamson was called home by his Lord on July 24, 2016 at the Chris Jensen Health & Rehabilitation Center in Duluth.

Harry was born July 9, 1930 to Harry and Leona Lamson in Brainerd, Minnesota. He attended elementary school in Effie, Minnesota and high school in Bigfork.

Harry served in the U.S. Navy (Naval Air Patrol) from 1950 – 1954. He returned to Effie where he owned and operated the Corner Café for three years.

He entered the Minnesota State Patrol and was stationed in Grand Marais from 1957 to 1959. While in Grand Marais, he met his future wife, Rosemary Smith. They were married May 11, 1961 in Decatur, Illinois.

Harry moved to Minneapolis in 1959 and worked as regional manager for ReTrac Manufacturing and then owned Camper Coach Company in Springfield and Riverton, Illinois from 1961 to 1969.

The family moved back to Grand Marais in 1969 and Harry worked as head mechanic at Massie Motors, as a policeman for the City of Grand Marais and as an ambulance driver for North Shore Hospital.

From 1973 to 1978, Harry owned and operated the local Taystee Bread franchise. He later worked as director of wood procurement at Hedstrom Lumber Company in 1978, retiring in 1995.

He was a 50-year member of Lions International and was past president in both the Springfield, Illinois and Grand Marais chapters. Harry was also a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

Harry enjoyed and loved being with his family. Harry was active in community and church activities. He loved the outdoors, going fishing, hunting, and hiking in the woods.

Harry is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Pauline and Sylvia, and granddaughter Audra.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Rosemary; sons David (Suzanne), Bob (Gayle), Tom (Lucy Stephens); daughter Barb Skillings (Kevin); and four grandchildren, Andrew, Anthony, Ashley and JR.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Aug. 13, 2016 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
