The Cook County Senior Center operated the Kiddy Rides, ticket and snack sales this year for the Fisherman’s Picnic. We would like to extend a huge thank you to all who helped out by volunteering. Thanks to our volunteers, we were able to raise over $1,400 to fund our senior programs!

Thank you Incredible Exchange students

Our students from the Incredible Exchange program have finished up with their summer of assisting seniors with computer training. The students— Genevieve Neuwirth and Lynden Blomberg—were great! The seniors really enjoyed and benefited from their assistance in computer training. Genevieve and Lynden also helped out with a wide variety of chores and activities at the Senior Center. The most winning part of this was the great intergenerational interaction. The students and the seniors really enjoyed each other.

If anyone in the business community has thought about participating in the School District 166 Incredible Exchange Program, I would highly suggest it. It was a great experience for all involved.

Many volunteers helped out at the Kiddy Rides during the Fisherman’s Picnic, benefiting the senior center. Pictured here manning the ticket booth are Tom Hedstrom and Warren Anderson.

Great fall trips planned

There are some great fall trips coming up in September with Grand Portage Casino Express trips on Thursday, September 12 and Tuesday, September 24. Transportation is free for those who sign up by the registration date and board at the Senior Center.

We are also hosting a Gunflint Lodge Lunch and Fall Color Trip Monday, September 23 from 10:00 a.m. – 3 p.m. Receive a generous 20 percent discount off your lunch bill! Roundtrip transportation is just $12, lunch at your own expense. Tour the fall colors on the way back.

Last month we travelled to Duluth and rode the North Shore Scenic Railway. We enjoyed lunch at The Chopsticks Inn and a treat at Culver’s on the way home. It was a very fun and enjoyable trip!

For more information on how to join the fun on these trips or to register, stop in or call the Senior Center at 387-2660.
