At press time, local ski and snowmobile groups provided the following snow report:
Banadad Trails
Lace Lake, Tall Pines, Knopp and 3 kilometers of Banadad were tracked Feb. 20. According to the groomer, there is 3 inches of light powder over a rock-hard frozen base. Skiing is described as “fair.” See boundarycountry.com for the latest conditions and reports.
Bearskin
The latest from Bearskin, posted Feb. 20: “With a great deal of effort from the three groomers of the Central Gunflint Trail ski system, our 77 k of ski trails are once again in good shape. It took some time to recover from the icy conditions and strong winds, but our trails are now tilled and groomed. A fresh coating of new snow overnight has created beautiful scenery again. Skiing should be great today.” Visit bearskintrailreports.wordpress.com for the most current information.
Golden Eagle
Feb. 18 comments: “We power tilled the trails on the north side of Flour Lake as well as our lit trail, Wolf Point. Tomorrow we plan to power till the trails on the south side of the lake as well as the west end Logging Camp. It is a slow process as the base is very firm and there were some trees down from the high winds of last night and today.” For the most current conditions see golden-eagle.com.
Gunflint Trail/Cook County Ridgeriders
Sky Dan’s Feb. 16 update: “Trails continue to be in excellent condition. There is a good 20-inch average base on most of the trails with more snow in the downtown Grand Marais area than we have seen in years. Warmer weather has arrived and invites everyone out for some of the most comfortable riding we have had this season. All trails are getting regular grooming and the State Trail is groomed regularly on Saturday nights after dark…Weekdays we have a crew brushing trails so be on the lookout for these guys along the way. The groomers can be out anytime so ride safe and give way to the big snow-cats.”
The second radar run is Saturday, Feb. 19 on Hungry Jack Lake out in front of the Hungry Jack Lodge. Registration starts at 11 a.m. and races begin at noon. For all the latest trail conditions, listen to the club’s recorded message at (218) 387-9392 or visit www.boreal.org/RidgeRiders/
Updated information on the Grand Portage trails may be had by calling the lodge at (218) 475-2401 or toll-free (800) 543-1384.
Lutsen Area
Feb. 20 update Cascade/Deeryard: “Ginzu grooming one track classic. Other track will be icy and hard. We are resetting tracks on Pioneer Loop and Main Deeryard Loop one side only. All other trails are open and skiing, but the only new track setting today is on the two loops mentioned. We will be attempting to open more trails as the weekend proceeds but the trails are rock hard.”
Hall Massie/North Shore Trail connectors: “Trails will be icy and hard. We set one classic lane around Hall/Massie, Cascade connector to Hall Loop and a skate/Classic lane to Lutsen from Caribou. Classic lane may be shallow due to rock hard conditions. Conditions are good but fast, and care should be taken down steep grades.”

Sugarbush Trail Association
The skate lane through much of the system has been packed and groomed as of Feb. 22. Classic tracks are well defined from previous Pisten Bully grooming. There is a packed base of 10-25 inches, with total snowfall for the season measuring 85 inches. See www.sugarbushtrail.org for an update.
