Sugarbush Trail Association

The Sugarbush Trail Association reports Jan. 8 that there is a packed base of 8-10 inches, with total snowfall for the season measuring between 30 and 35 inches; only a trace of snow fell during the past week. Groomers describe the trail conditions as packed powder with some icy spots and some thin spots. See www.sugarbushtrail.org for an update.

Bearskin Lodge

Summer Home, Campground, Lower Beaver Dam, and Bear Cub were regroomed Jan. 1, after a little bit of snow fell. Oxcart was also freshly groomed. Skiers report that the colder temps helped the tracks firm up very nicely. For all the latest, see bearskintrailreports.wordpress.com or call (218) 388-2292.

Golden Eagle

Jan. 6 comments: After an inch and a quarter of new snow yesterday we re-groomed all the trails on the north side of Flour Lake as well as the west end Logging Camp, Ridge Run and upper part of the Beaver Dam. The ice on Flour Lake is finally thick enough for the snowcat so we were able to groom the North South Link from Golden Eagle to Aspen Lake with the Pisten Bully today. Reports from longtime guests say it has been the best skiing ever the last two weeks! See golden-eagle.com for up-to-the-minute conditions and groomer’s report, or call (800) 346-2203.

Banadad Trails

There was 19 inches of snow on the ground as of Jan. 7, and the packed trail base was 14 inches where rolled. Overall, groomed and tracked trails were Banadad, 30 km; Lace Lake, 6 km; and Tall Pines, 3 km. For more information check the latest at boundarycountry.com.

Gunflint Trail/Cook County Ridgeriders

As of Jan. 10, conditions are still excellent. Snow levels around the mid-Trail area are around 24 inches, and the trails are being groomed on a regular basis. Forrest of Hungry Jack Lodge reports that the Cook County Ridge Riders snowmobile club has been doing a lot of trail maintenance this season, with almost eight miles of reconstruction of the Gunflint Snowmobile Trail. They are also working very hard on brushing back the trails. “If you have snowmobiled in Cook County previously, you will see great improvements to our local trail system,” commented Forrest.

For more information, listen to the club’s recorded message at (218) 387-9392 or see boreal.org/RidgeRiders. Updated information on the Grand Portage trails may be had by calling the lodge at (218) 475-2401 or toll-free (800) 543- 1384.

Pincushion Mountain Ski Trails

The Pincushion trails were completely re-groomed and power tilled with the Pisten Bully Jan. 9. “It’s easy to sum up the conditions: perfect for skate or classic,” according to the groomers. Go to pincushiontrails.org for the latest conditions.

Lutsen Area

Groomer’s Jan. 7 comments regarding Cascade/Deeryard Lake: “We have re-groomed the entire system with our Pisten Bully. The track setting is perfect, especially out at Deeryard. Near the lake, snow amounts are still lower, but ski conditions are good to excellent. All trails are double tracked for traditional skiing.”

Conditions on the Hall Massie/North Shore Trail: “We have groomed the Hall/Massie loops but not the smaller Deertracks and Whitesides loops near Solbakken. Connector to Lutsen Ski Hill Road is groomed as well as connector to Cascade. All trails are skiing good to excellent with one track for traditional and one skate lane now open.”
