Happy Trails

At press time, local ski and snowmobile groups provided the following snow report:

Banadad Trails

Jan. 14 report: On the east end of Banadad and adjoining trails, skiing is excellent. The west end of the Banadad is fair: more snow needed. Snow depth in the woods is 13-14 inches. Snowshoe trails are also open.

For the latest conditions, see boundarycountry.com

Bearskin

Jan. 15 report: “We’ve had a little snow in the past few days. There’s also been a lot of trail usage…the Gunflint still has the best skiing conditions in the area.

See bearskintrailreports.wordpress.com/ for the most recent conditions.

Golden Eagle

Jan. 15 report: Groomers on both sides were out yesterday and skiers reported that skiing was fantastic! With the new snow this past week, much of the stubble on Beaver Dam, Ridge Run, and Bear Cub is disappearing and trails are in good to excellent shape. For the latest, call 1-800-346-2203 or 218-388-2203.

Lutsen Area

We put tracks down around the Pioneer Loop, the main Deeryard Loop and the Firetower on Jan. 15. Deeryard Lake is now skiing excellent.

See www.norpinetrails.org for a complete report on ski conditions.

North Shore snowmobiling

Forrest at Hungry Jack Lodge says on Jan. 14: “Snowmobile trail conditions are still rideable but more snow is definitely needed to get the groomers out. Current snow levels are right around 12 inches here at the mid-Trail area.”

Pincushion

On Jan. 16 trails groomed up nicely and with colder temps should set up real well. The skate lanes on West Overlook were also groomed.

Sawbill Trail

Bill Hansen reports Jan. 14: “Groomed the Sawbill ski trail this morning. 7.5K of classic tracks starting in the Sawbill campground at the bitter end of the Sawbill Trail. 10-inch base, 15 inches of snow on the ground.”

Visit sawbill.com for the most up-todate information.

Sugarbush Trail Association

Jan. 15 update: The lower 2k of Onion River Road is thin and icy in spots. Because of the thin conditions we are unable to set any new tracks on the lower part. The upper 3.5k is in much better shape. Still waiting for more snow to work other parts of the system. Use extreme caution if you decide to venture out there.

See www.sugarbushtrail.org for the latest conditions.

West End snowmobiling

Steve Bragg reports on Jan. 11: “There is less than a foot of snow on the trails and less near the shore. With so little snow there is no point in damaging the groomer but if we can get a substantial snowfall the groomer will start grooming at least up over the hill away from the shore. It will be tough to get to the shore for gas, etc. but Hungry Jack or Devil Track will be good places to go for that. Keep wishing for more.”
