Bearskin Dec. 25 report: We’ve had some snow over the past few days, but not the 4-6 inches that was forecast. Summer Home, Campground and the Lit Loop continue to be great skiing. They are all groomed and tracked; skiers are reporting good to excellent conditions. All the other trails are packed, so exploratory skiing on those trails has been entertaining for some. Bob packed and groomed the Man -vs- Dog trail on East Bearskin Lake. It’s lake skiing, but gives skiers another option while we wait for more snow. The trail is about 5K long and is groomed for both classic and skate skiing. On the Golden Eagle side of the trail system Deer Mouse, Red Pine, and Wolf Point were just groomed. Conditions are reported to be good. There is also a lake loop now on Flour Lake. The snowshoe trails, of course, are also a fun option at this point. For all the latest conditions, see bearskintrailreports. wordpress.com/ Golden Eagle Dec. 26 report: We have all trails packed and have set tracks with the snowcat on Wolf Point, Red Pines, and a portion of the Logging Camp Trail and those trails are rated good skiing. We have also tracked Deer Mouse and that is reported as great skiing. Also, we will be packing and tracking a temporary ski trail along the lakeshore of Flour Lake. Summer Home, Campground and Lit Loop are groomed and tracked and they have a 5K lake trail loop as well. Total snowfall this season is 13.9 inches. Call (800) 346-2203 for the latest conditions. Gunflint Pines The good news on Dec. 22 is that we received 1/4 inch of fresh snow last night, and have 1-2 inches in the forecast. The ski trails are packed and open for skate skiing, but the fresh snow in the forecast means we may be able to lay a track around the system soon. Visit www.gunflintpines.com for all of the up-to-the-minute trail news. Lutsen Area Dec. 21 report: Deeryard Lake trail is open! We were able to pack the loop but the only area we are recommending skiing on is the lake side of the loop up to the Firetower where there is adequate snow to ski on. Currently, base depth is 3 inches or less. See www.norpinetrails.org for a complete report on ski conditions. Pincushion Dec. 23 report: After the 3 inches of snow that fell, I set out to roll some trail, which I did, but then I got bold and did a few laps with the Ginzu. Make no mistake, this is still rock skiing at best, but it looked good in the dark. West Overlook, Upper and Lower Snowman groomed for skate and classic (classic track is thin — might be enough stubble and gravel where you don’t even need kick wax) North Advanced, skate skiing. Again, use caution, this is very early season skiing. Visit pincushiontrails.org/trail-reports for the latest. Sugarbush Trail Association Conditions as of Dec. 26 were described as very good. Onion River Road has classic tracks for both directions. There is just enough snow for the groomer to work his magic. Skate lane was rolled but not packed/groomed. It was soft for skating but still very good. See www.sugarbushtrail.org for the latest conditions.
