Gunflint Trail/Cook County Ridgeriders

Forrest of Hungry Jack Lodge reports on March 3 that current conditions are still holding up pretty decent, and grooming is still being done on a regular basis. “We did receive about 1-2 inches of snow last night. We could still use a little more to get the trails back to the condition they were earlier in the year. Overall, however, the riding is still very good. The trails have their rough spots but things are looking much better this year than last. Last year at this time we had about three or four days of riding left, then the ice was off the lake on April 4. That was the earliest spring I have ever seen. We should be sitting good for the next couple of weeks unless we get a crazy warm spell.”

Lutsen Area

All trails were tilled and tracked with the Pisten Bully on March 4, and conditions remain “excellent.” Cascade/ Deeryard Lake has a 5-24-inch base. Hall Massie/North Shore trails have a base of 5-20 inches. The groomers warn, however, that warm days may create icy morning conditions.

Golden Eagle

March 7 comments: “More new snow overnight and we’re out grooming. We have blue skies and sunshine — what a beautiful day to be out on the trails.” Conditions are described overall as “excellent,” with 3+ inches of new snow for the week and a trail base of 12-14 inches. For the most current conditions see golden-eagle.com.

Bearskin

The latest from Bearskin, posted March 7: “Beautiful, soft snowfall right now with large, fluffy flakes. The center sections of the system (Beaver Dam, Summer Home, etc.) were groomed this morning after yesterday’s snowfall. Quinn is heading out to do Poplar Creek and Oxcart this afternoon with the G2, even though it is snowing at the moment, as he’d like to stay ahead of it. Some forecasts indicate we could have a full week of this type of March snow. We’ll be out there.” Visit bearskintrailreports. wordpress.com for the most current information.

Sugarbush Trail Association

Groomer’s March 7 report: All trails, except for Moose Fence area, have been rolled by snowmobile to pack the fresh snow. We will start grooming the trails after the snow stops falling. “With 9-13 inches of new snow in the past week, total snowfall for the season stands at 98 inches; the packed base in most places is between 14 and 28 inches. See www.sugarbushtrail.org for an update.
