Bearskin

The latest from Bearskin, posted Feb. 24: “Fresh snow overnight. Groomers out this morning…It’s nice to see the evergreen boughs coated in snow again.” Visit bearskintrailreports.wordpress.com for the most current information.

Cook County Ridgeriders

Sky Dan’s Feb. 28 update: “The trails continue to be in excellent condition in the Arrowhead of Minnesota near and around the Grand Marais/Gunflint Trail area. We have had a couple of 4- to 6- inch snowfalls in the past week to add to the 20-inch base that most of the trails currently have packed down. These are the best conditions we have seen yet this year and riders are very satisfied as they report in at resorts along the Trail.” The annual fishcake feed is on again at Carbine’s cabin up on McFarland Lake this Saturday, March 5. The Snowmobile Club will leave the Devil Track General Store at 9 a.m. for a great ride up there; there is plenty of parking at the lot near the Devil Track Landing. Also a reminder that the end-of-the-season trout derby will be held on Gunflint Lake Sunday, March 13. For all the latest trail conditions, listen to the club’s recorded message at (218) 387-9392 or visit www.boreal.org/ RidgeRiders/. Updated information on the Grand Portage trails may be had by calling the lodge at (218) 475-2401 or toll-free (800) 543-1384.

Golden Eagle

Feb. 24 comments: “There was enough new snow overnight to groom without the tiller. We are starting on the north side of Flour Lake and will continue to the south side. The plan is to get the portion of the Logging Camp in the Boundary Waters done today as well. The colder temperatures should set the trails up nicely.” There is a packed trail base of 12 to 24 inches; 70 km of trails are open. For the most current conditions see goldeneagle.com.

Sugarbush Trail Association

Trail conditions are described as “very good to excellent” systemwide. As of Feb. 26, there is a packed base of 12-25 inches, with total snowfall for the season measuring 89 inches. See www.sugarbushtrail.org for an update.

Lutsen Area

All trails were groomed Feb. 23, and base depth ranges from 10 to 28 inches on the Hall Massie/North Shore Trail connectors to Lutsen and Cascade. The trails were tilled with the Ginzu-style groomer for the third time since ice formation. There is one skate lane and one classic lane over all of the system except for the loops near Solbakken, where there is one classic lane only. The groomer said conditions there range from good to excellent. On Cascade/Deeryard Lake trails, the base depth is 6 to 28 inches. The entire system has been tilled with the Pisten Bully, and the groomer said the results were “amazing” with nearly perfect conditions throughout. See www.norpinetrails.org for a complete update and for the latest grooming reports.

West End snowmobile trails

According to the Superior Timber Wolves, the most recent grooming on the Tofte and Leveaux trails was done March 2. All trails are in good condition, and the cold weather has made them very hard and fast. “Not much loose snow for track lubrication. Need to pop out into loose snow once in a while to keep them cool,” advised the groomer.
