Happy Hikers will travel to Tettegouche State Park for hike

The Happy Hikers will hike the Shovel Point Trail at Tettegouche State Park on July 19. This 1 (plus) mile hike starts at the visitor center and follows the rugged Lake Superior shoreline along a clifftop. We will end at the tip of the point with a stunning view of Palisade Head to the west. Uneven terrain, wooden stairs and boardwalk.

We will then go the opposite direction to the mouth of the Baptism River, then follow this trail up the side of the river to the High Falls—the highest waterfall completely within the boundaries of Minnesota. This 3-mile round trip hike has steep terrain and wooden stairs.

We will enjoy our picnic lunch at the tables behind the Visitor Center.

Difficulty level: Moderate.

Approximate distance: 4 miles.

Meet at the YMCA parking lot near the tennis courts at 9:00 am. We’ll carpool to the Tettegouche State Park. Suggested donation for drivers: $3.

If you would like to meet us at the park, be there around 10:00 a.m. Let me know if you’re going to meet us there so we know to wait for you.

WHAT TO BRING: Hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, head net or bug shirt, sturdy hiking shoes/ boots, hiking poles, water, and a sack lunch.

If it’s raining, the hike will be cancelled. Listen to WTIP for an announcement. Questions? Contact Carol Morgen, 715-377-2526.
