DEVIL TRACK RIVER – JULY 12, 2023
This week the Happy Hikers will hike along the Devil Track River section of the Superior Hiking Trail, beginning at County Road 58 (Lindskog Rd.) trailhead parking lot (a few miles east of Grand Marais). We will travel through a 1937 tree plantation. Watch for scenic waterfalls and gorgeous red cliffs. We will hike 2.4 miles to the Devil Track River Bridge, a 50-foot “A”-shape bridge that was built in 1992. The canyon is deep and remote. There are campsites on both the west and east side of the river, and we will plan to eat our snack/lunch at one of the campsites. Well-behaved dogs on a leash are welcome.
Difficulty level: Moderate
Approximate distance: 4.8 miles round trip.
Meet at the YMCA parking lot near the tennis courts at 9:00 am. We’ll carpool to the trailhead. Suggested donation for drivers: $3.
If you would like to meet us at the trailhead, be there around 9:15 a.m. Let me know if you’re going to meet us there so we know to wait for you.
What to bring: Hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, head net or bug shirt, sturdy hiking shoes/boots, hiking poles, water, and a sack lunch.
If it’s raining, the hike will be cancelled.
