Happy Hikers take on the Northern terminus of the Superior Hiking Trail

On July 13 the Happy Hikers will start from the trailhead on Otter Lake Road and hike along the Superior Hiking Trail/ Border Route Trail to the northern terminus of the Superior Hiking Trail and the 270 Degree Overlook, where you will see beautiful views of the Swamp River/Pigeon River valleys and the Canadian border. We will have lunch at the overlook. Well-behaved dogs on a leash are welcome.

Difficulty level: Moderate with some elevation (may be muddy in sections)

Approximate distance: Two miles

Meet at the YMCA parking lot near the tennis courts at 9:00 am. We’ll carpool to the Otter Lake Rd. trailhead, approximately 40 miles from Grand Marais. Suggested donation for drivers: $3.

If you live east of Grand Marais and would like to meet us along Hwy. 61, meet at the intersection of the Arrowhead Trail around 9:20 a.m. Let me know if you’re going to meet us there so we know to wait for you.

What to bring: Hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, sturdy hiking shoes/boots, hiking poles, water, and a sack lunch.

If it’s raining, the hike will be cancelled. Listen to WTIP for a cancellation announcement.
