Happy Hikers alert, the schedule is set; now all you have to do is show up and hike!
All hikes will meet in Grand Marais on Wednesday at the YMCA parking lot by the tennis courts at 9:00 a.m. We’ll carpool to the trailhead (suggested donation for drivers is $3) and hike for two to three hours. If you would like to meet us at the trailhead (rather than the YMCA), we ask that you notify Carol beforehand so we know to wait for you. Everyone is invited to bring a sack lunch each week to enjoy after the hikes.
An email will be sent out on Fridays with a detailed description of each upcoming hike. We ask that you look at the difficulty level of the hike and assess your ability to do the walk safely. You will be asked to fill out an index card and sign ONE TIME with your emergency contact information and release of liability on the back. For each hike you participate in, you will pull your card from the file, check the date, and give the card to the hike leader.
Important: About half our hikes will take place on the Superior Hiking Trail. The SHT Association is beginning to track the number of users on the Trail in an effort to prevent overuse damage. The Trail is free to use but costs $1 million annually to manage and maintain. We invite participants to make a donation or become a member of the Superior Hiking Trail Association (or volunteer on a trail maintenance project). For more information: superiorhiking.org/
