The “green thumbed” participants in the Cook County YMCA Kids Camp were more than happy to show off the vegetables they are growing at the Cook County Community Center under the direction of Diane Booth, a Master Gardener and the director of the community center.
The YMCA Kids Camp attendees spend every Tuesday from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. working on container gardens, traditional gardens and hay bale gardens. By July 1 there was already enough leafy produce for the kids to start snacking on. Kids also do arts and crafts while there and they have built a nice arch made of small saplings to walk through.
The last day of gardening will come on August 26 when Kids Camp ends for the summer.
