Ham Run is green—and fun!

In addition to being one of the “greenest” events in the nation, the Ham Run Half-Marathon and related events—the Ham Run 5K and the Little Runts Run— is just plain fun, for runners and for spectators. Don’t miss this year’s race, which is not being held on the same weekend as the Gunflint Green Up, but instead kicks off spring on Sunday, May 2.

Runners are encouraged to take part in the Ham Run events on the “Trail Less Traveled.” For marathoners there is a variety of reasons to take part—a great pasta feed at My Sister’s Place restaurant, a recycled goodie bag, and a free ham dinner and dancing after the race.

Runners may register for the race on-line at www.hamrunhalfmarathon. com or by stopping by the Lake Superior Trading Post in Grand Marais.

If you’re not up to running 13.1 miles on the “Trail Less Traveled,” consider taking part in the low-key Ham Run 5K, which also takes runners past some of the most beautiful scenery in the country.

And of course, there is something for kids—the Little Runts Run will be held after the Half Marathon is finished, at approximately 1:00 p.m. The first 50 children ages 3-10 to register will receive a race T-shirt.

To register or for more information, visit www.hamrunhalfmarathon.com.

The Ham Run Half-Marathon and 5K Fun Run has made the Pledge of Sustainability and is now a member of “A FitPlanet.” FitPlanet provides event organizers with formal and public recognition for taking steps to become more environmentally responsible. Organizers of the Ham Run are doing above and beyond what is required of them to be listed as a Green Event and partner of A FitPlanet. In order to be considered, the event must pledge to adopt the five main eco-practices set forth by FitPlanet and choose a minimum of 10 eco-practices from the elective list. Congratulations, Ham Run, on helping athletes green the planet one race at a time.
