The Cook County Curling Club held its seventh annual Open Halloween Bonspiel on October 27, 28 and 29 with 12 teams competing in a round-robin format. The club is always happy to see its returning guests from the St. Paul Curling Club, Two Harbors Curling Club, Duluth, and Superior Curling Clubs.
This year we added to that list with guests who came from the Four Seasons Curling Club and the Chaska Curling Club. Everyone enjoyed the camaraderie, social interaction, plus some serious curling on fast ice.
The Phil Devore rink from the Superior Curling Club won the “A” event and the Bob Hedstrom rink from the St. Paul Curling Club were the runner-up. Rory Smith’s rink played against Bob Spry’s rink – both rinks are from the Cook County Curling Club, for the “B” event. Rory’s rink won the “B” event with Bob’s rink being runner-up.
Coldwell Banker from Grand Marais sponsored prize money for the best team and individual in costume for the costume contest. Scott Scheirbeck rink from the Duluth Curling Club won the team prize, and Rick Putman from the Cook County Curling Club won the individual.
