The Cook County Curling Club held its 9th annual Open Halloween Bonspiel on November 2nd and 3rd with six out-of-town teams and two local teams competing in a round-robin format. The club is always happy to see its returning guests from the St. Paul curling club and Two Harbors curling club.
This year we added guests who came from the Chaska curling club and Frogtown curling club from the metro area. Everyone enjoyed the camaraderie, social interaction, plus some serious curling on fast ice.
Both teams from the Cook County curling club went up against each other in the final event on Sunday morning. The Jim King rink from the Cook County curling club won the “A” event and the Bob Spry rink from the Cook County curling club was the runner up.
The Ed Clark rink from the Frogtown curling club won the “B” event with Bob Hedstrom’s St. Paul curling club runner-up.
Coldwell Banker from Grand Marais sponsored prize money for the best team and individual in costume for the costume contest. Brian Parkhurst rink from the Chaska curling club won the team prize and Jason Yecoshenko from the Two Harbors curling club won the individual.
Curling is a fun sport to do in the winter months when the days are short and the evenings are long. If you are interested in learning a new sport please check out our website at cookcountycurlingclub.com for opportunities to learn and watch the sport in your own back yard.
