The Cook County Community YMCA is a busy place with youths swimming, log rolling, dancing and now studying gymnastics. A group of 11 Cook County gymnasts and their families headed to the Woodland Gymnastics Facility in Duluth on December 12 for a fun-filled event.

The girls spent the evening practicing routines on the uneven bars, balance beam, and vault. They also got to watch a show put on by the Duluth Area Family YMCA Ariel competitive gymnastics team and spend time with the girls to learn a floor routine.

Families camped out on the mats and watched a gymnastics film. The girls woke up the next morning to practice some more and then hosted a mini inner-squad meet. Each gymnast performed two vaults, a floor routine, a routine on the beam and a demonstration of skills on the bars.

“The girls had so much fun, they have all accomplished so much since September,” said parent Sarah Hallberg.
