Gwen Lenz named Citizen of the Year

Every year the Grand Marais Lions reach out for nominations for Citizen of the Year, and every year there are a handful of great candidates qualified for the honor. This year was no different, but super volunteer Gwen Lenz won the award, and no one could be more deserving than Gwen.

As a longtime volunteer, it was noted that Gwen is always more than willing to help when called on–or picking up a project on her own initiative–and she always does the work cheerfully.

Some of Gwen’s contributions to the community include serving as the Food Shelf Manager and serving on the board. In addition, she volunteers at 1st and 2nd Thrift Shop, is a voluntary tax preparer, serves in various capacities as a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, is a Ruby’s Pantry volunteer, serves as a board member On the Council on Aging (The Hub), is a member of the Women’s Initiative for Self Empowerment (WISE), and helps as an AEOA Food Distribution Volunteer.

That’s a lot of hard work, but Gwen does it with a smile and a positive attitude!

Some comments received about Gwen during the nominating process include, “She is fun, welcoming, hardworking, organized, and creative.”

“Her volunteerism shows that she genuinely cares for others and their need.”

“Gwen is always willing to take on tasks related to serving the community.”

Congratulations to Gwen Lenz on being named 2022 Citizen of the Year!
