The Cook County Minnesota Highway Department announced an update on their solicitation for an IIJA Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) Grant for the Gunflint Trail Improvement Project. There were four projects selected in Minnesota and Cook County was not one of them. All told the Department of Transportation received $15 billion in requests but only had $2.26 billion available.
The county requested $21,500,377.46 from the RAISE grant.
In January, the second of two well-attended Visioning Sessions were held with the community to present a draft and solicit public input on the project.
“I appreciate all the input and engagement we had from the community regarding this opportunity, and it really shows how passionate people were about it,” said Robbie Hass, Cook County Engineer. “Next steps for us will be to break up our big project into smaller projects and find funding for those.”
