The Gunflint Trail Historical Society recently received a Legacy Amendment Grant of $9,965 from the Minnesota Historical Society.
The grant will be used to hire a qualified professional to conduct a preliminary review and inventory of the museum collections.
Lake County Historical Society in Two Harbors was also a recipient of a $10,000 grant. Lake County will use the proceeds to hire a qualified architect to conduct a condition assessment of the 1907 Duluth and Iron Range Railroad Company Depot, listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
All in all, the Minnesota Historical Society (MNHS) distributed 30 Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage Small Grants ($10,000 and less), totaling $268,192 to organizations in 16 counties.
Small grants are awarded quarterly to help nonprofits, educational organizations, government units and federally recognized tribes to preserve and share Minnesota history. The MNHS Executive Council approved this cycle of awards on March 11, 2021.
This state-funded program is made possible by the Legacy Amendment’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund through the vote of Minnesotans on November 4, 2008. The Legacy Amendment supports efforts to preserve Minnesota’s land, water, and legacy, including Minnesota’s history and cultural heritage.
Each project awarded will preserve and enhance Minnesota’s cultural and historical resources. All grants are competitive and awarded according to program guidelines and criteria, as well as professional standards.
