The Gunflint Trail Historical Society (GTHS) announces the second chamber music concert by and for residents and guests of the Gunflint Trail to benefit the work of the society.
The Gunflint Woods, Winds & Strings will take place at 4 p.m. Aug. 16 at Fire Hall 1 on Poplar Lake (a mile east of Trail Center). A “Meet the Artists” social hour in the A. Paul and Carol Schaap Mid-Trail Community Center will follow the concert.
“Our classical chamber music concert in a Northwoods setting last summer was so exciting for everyone—the performers as well as the audience,” said Sally Valentini. “There are some very talented musicians in our area who will entertain us on a summer Saturday afternoon while supporting the work of the Gunflint Trail Historical Society. It’s a win-win!”
Concert organizing committee members include Susan Scherer, Phyllis Sherman, Judy Edlund, Barb Bottger and Lee Zopff, with assistance from Sharlene LeTourneau, Carol Byers, Vi Nelson and many others from last year’s event.
Among the scheduled performers are Bill Beckstrand (harpsichord and keyboard), Philis Anderson (oboe), Kathy Bolstad (clarinet), Keitha Herron (violin), Paul Jacobson (baroque flute), Barb LaVigne (flute), Laura Popkes (vocal), Judy Ranheim (flute), and Erika Ternes (vocal and keyboard).
Tickets are $20 each for adults and $5 for children under 18, including the reception. The 2013 concert was a sold-out event so those wishing tickets should reserve as early as possible. Tickets may be purchased at the Chik-Wauk Museum and Nature Center, or by phone at (218) 388-9915.
