The Gunflint Hills Golf Club met September 27 to finalize the 2009 season, to elect new officers for 2010, and have its annual steak fry. President Mark Sandbo presided at the meeting and also cooked the steaks.
Thisyear’s champions are Frankie Rabold of the Senior Men’s group and Rosemary Lamson of the Ladies group. No information is available on the Men’s group.
Winning in the Senior Men’s tournament is Frankie Rabold as champion and in the championship flight, Gene Erickson was first; Oz Anderson was second and Bob Sopoci was in third place. In the second flight, Gene Malner took first, Joel Anderson was second and Dwain Staples was third.
Prizes for the first five teams in Senior Men’s League went to John Burnett and Jim Philips, first; Frankie Rabold and Dwain Staples, second; John Lindell and Rod Wannebo, third; and a tie for fourth between the teams of Pete Ryden and Nick Jacobsen and Marlo Luick and Bob Sopoci.
In the Mixed Couple’s League, the three top winners were the teams of Joel and Louise Club News
Anderson, first; Vi Rindahl and Dwight Holcombe, second; and Rod and Paule Wannebo, third.
In the Women’s Club championship tournament, Rosemary Lamson is champion with low gross score. For runner-up there was a tie score between Louise Anderson and Karen Medlin. The low net winner was Karen Ranum. In the Women’s League for the summer, Rosemary and Vi Rindahl came in first, the team of Karen Medlin and Karen Ranum were second, and Louise Anderson and Paule Wannebo were third.
The following were named for the offices to be held in 2010: Leonard Goodell, president; Peter Ranum, president-elect; Yvonne Benson, treasurer; Rosemary Lamson, secretary; and Vi Rindahl, historian. Directors for one-year terms are Dwain Staples and Karen Medlin; for two years, Walt Mianowski and Ray Sjoberg. The nominating committee is Karen Medlin, Chuck Futterer and Skip Joynes. The past presidents were Mark Sandbo in 2009 and Walt Mianowski in 2008.
Eleanor Sjoberg will do the publicity. Ladies League coordinator for next year is Rosemary Lamson. Other leagues are yet to be named.
The golf course at this writing is still open. Weather will determine for how much longer.
