Gunflint Green up coming soon!

Andrea Mark your calendars for the weekend of June 2 – 4 and be sure to travel up the Gunflint Trail for the beauty of green-up after a long winter! It’s a fun-filled, family friendly weekend with nature, garage sales, prizes, food, games, educational booths, and a chance to GET OUTDOORS AND GET INVOLVED. The Gunflint Green Days focus is to draw more community awareness and improve the natural landscape of the Gunflint Trail and surrounding BWCA lakes with help from you.

Garage Sales are a great way to reuse items reducing the amount of waste going to the landfill. Participating lodges and residents will hold garage sales at their locations along the Gunflint Trail all three days from 8am-5pm. If you aren’t able to host a garage sale, you may donate 10 items per household to be dropped off at the Schaap Community Center Friday, June 2 from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. where proceeds will benefit the Gunflint Trail Fire Department.

Sign up as a team to clean up litter alongside the Gunflint Trail on Saturday, June 3 from 10 a.m.- 12 p.m. Each participant will receive a recycled bag with gloves, garbage bags, pine seedlings, instructions, meal voucher, and other freebies.

Prizes will be awarded for various trash categories so be sure to take pictures of anything interesting you find along your portion of the Trail. Pick up participants bags Friday, June 2 from 5-7 p.m. or Saturday, June 3 from 9 a.m.-10 a.m. at the Schaap Community Center. Please be sure to wear bright colors so you are seen by motorists, wear sturdy shoes, bring water, and park completely off the Gunflint Trail while collecting trash.

Afterwards, come celebrate at the Schaap Community Center from 12 p.m.-3 p.m. Food will be provided for all participants who helped clean up litter, donations are appreciated for all others. Shop at the mosquito market from 12 p.m.-3 p.m. and find unique items. Learn some things through the educational booths including Aquatic Invasive Species, Reducing Plastic Waste, Cook County Local Energy Project, US Forest Service, Chik Wauk Museum, and more. Try your luck at plinko, skeeball, sasquatch walk, and Trail Trivia going on throughout the event for more chances to win prizes. Prizes include jackets, pints, children’s apparel, ice cream sandwiches, books, jewelry, and more.

Still need incentive to make it up the Trail? Top prizes include a $50 gift card from Poplar Haus, Towering Pines Canopy Tour for two at Gunflint Lodge, Pizza and Beer from White Pine Lodge, Gunflint Horse Stables for two-, and a-Day Ski Pass for Golden Eagle/Bearskin Lodge.

We still need volunteers to help at the event June 3 from 12-3 p.m. and Clean Up Participants. To sign up and learn more about the event, visit: sites.google.com/view/gunflintgreendays
