John Edwards, 61, from Duluth, visited the North Shore to grouse hunt in the Tofte area on October 29. A side trip down a U.S. Forest Service road off the Sawbill Trail led to Edwards getting his Toyota RAV-4 stuck in the mud up to its frame. Cook County Law Enforcement received a call requesting help at about 1:01 p.m.
Because it was not entirely clear where Edwards was stuck the tow truck responding drove a circuitous route to reach the vehicle, which was on Forest Road 344, a lowlevel maintenance road. By the time Edwards’ car was found, it was too late to get it out.
Edwards and his companion ended up spending the night at the AmericInn in Tofte because there was no way the vehicle could be removed that evening. The next day Cook County Towing successfully got the vehicle out.
However, Cook County Law Enforcement was told Edwards was unsuccessful in getting any grouse.
