Grocery stores provide curbside pickup

In the good old days buying groceries from Johnson’s Big Dollar grocery store involved handing Tumsey or Paul or Ethel or one of the many Johnsons your list and they would shop for you, bring you the groceries and then you would pay at the till.

Now that was service!

And guess what? That service has returned, but not for the same reasons.

Because of the COVID-19 coronavirus each of the grocery store’s management has decided it’s in everyone’s best interest to protect both the public and their employees by making this change and to more easily follow the government’s social distancing policy.

Starting March 25, the Cook County Whole Foods Co-op, Gene’s Foods and Johnson’s Foods will provide curbside pick-up and deliveries.

Customers can call or email their order to the stores and staff will fill the order and either deliver or set a time for you to pick up your groceries from the store.

Payment can be made by credit/ debit card and SNAP. Both Johnson’s and Gene’s will accept checks and WIC.

Gene’s Foods will deliver groceries on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Cook County Whole Foods Co-op will deliver on Tuesdays and Friday and Johnson’s Foods will offer delivery Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

Each of the stores is looking for volunteers to help them fill the orders. Anyone wishing to volunteer to help deliver, pack orders or perform curbside pick-up should go online at mnresponds.org.

A message from Joyne’s Department Store

For the safety of our employees, customers, and community, we have closed our doors to weather the COVID-19 storm. We will remain closed until the storm passes. Updates will be posted on Facebook and through Boreal email.

Although our doors are closed and we cannot permit you to browse our aisles, we are doing everything we can to connect you with the products you want and need. We’re happy to send pictures of product options you might be interested in. Sewing, knitting, and crafting supplies have been very popular this week. “Send me some pictures of projects you have to keep the kids busy” or “I need a project to keep myself busy, “ have been popular requests. Personally, I picked out a 1000 piece puzzle, something I hadn’t done in years. Feel free to contact us via Facebook or send us an email at Joynes@boreal.org.
