The Pharma scare ads have started. Every time the discussion starts on negotiating prices, they start. Between buying politicians and scare ads, they are successful. Look at how Medicare Part D stripped out the negotiating clause Democrats wanted. Trump promised to make negotiating happen and abandoned his promise by 2019. Now Biden and the Democrats want to get it done. The ads have started. Pay attention to what happens. Pay attention as to whether the Bill gets filibustered by the GOP minority in the Senate. Isn’t it crazy how big Pharma equates negotiating on Medicare drug prices with stifling research and orphan drug creation? A lot of the research is publicly funded, and they reap the rewards and get exclusive patents and charge whatever they want. Insulin has been around for a hundred years. It is inexpensive to create, so why has it gone up exponentially in the last decades? GREED. They spend more on advertising than researching and creating. And if we negotiated drug prices, like the Veterans Administration and every other civilized country in the world, they could save money on buying politicians. Why should Americans subsidize their big profits and get a raw deal?
Other countries that negotiate for lower prices do just fine, why should America subsidize the research and get a raw deal in prices?
