Would people show up?
You bet they did, and the weather was perfect!
After a two-year hiatus due to the covid outbreak, the Grand Portage Rendezvous Days and Celebration Pow Wow drew big crowds throughout the three-day weekend.
Events were free and there was more to see than one could take in, in half a day unless you rushed.
Highlighting the pow-wow was the mid-day Grand Entry featuring the U.S. and Canadian flag ceremony to honor military veterans from Grand Portage. Next, staff bearers led dancers into the pow wow ring for a traditional honor dance as the Stone Bridge singers and drummers began playing. Dressed in traditional regalia, the sounds of the jingle dresses and dancers’ songs filled the air.
The pow wow featured a softball tournament, bingo, running races, food trucks, and vendor tents selling native art, jewelry, and more.
Sponsored by the Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, the Rendezvous Days & Celebration Pow Wow were back and as good as ever. And that’s saying a lot because this has always been a great time to visit the prettiest place in Minnesota and learn about the culture and history of Grand Portage while having fun to boot!
