The Cook County Senior Center is a non-governmental, nonprofit entity. We exist to assist, entertain and to provide a wonderful social experience, which includes warm and nutritious daily meals for our seniors.
Sadly, there are many under privileged seniors in our community. There is a real need to help those folks out with a warm noon meal. The Senior Center is seeking donations to provide our local seniors in need with a hot and healthy meal. The cost is just $4 per meal for those 60 and over. Of course, many folks can afford $4 for one of our wonderful meals but many folks cannot. Your donations may be anonymous or in your honor. Meals are available for dine-in, pickup or delivery with our Meals on Wheels program.
So often, it seems that our seniors in need are a forgotten class of people. Why is that?
Please keep your local seniors and Senior Center in your thoughts when considering making your tax-deductible donations this year.
Great gifts
The Senior Center has lunch tickets available for purchase. They make great gifts for those who are hard to buy for. They are easy to stick in a card and mail or to give in person. They are just $4 each for use for folks 60 years and older.
The Senior Center also has holiday card bundles of 25 cards for just $5. We also have individual holiday cards for just 50 cents each.
Great trips and activities
We will be travelling to the Grand Portage Lodge and Casino on Monday evening, December 15.
Transportation is free. Anyone who joins the trip receives $5 in free slot play and $5 off any entrée in the dining room.
Everyone is invited for a delicious meal and a fun time for all at our annual Holiday Party Wednesday, December 17. At 12 p.m., enjoy our Holiday Party Meal (Baked Ham, Scalloped Potatoes, Green Beans, Pumpkin Bar). At 12:30 take part in the Holiday Musical Trees Game. At 1 p.m. you can participate in the Gift Exchange Game.
To join the fun, please bring a wrapped gift valued at less than $10. If you cannot afford a gift, please ask Kristen. We have some graciously donated gifts available. We will pass out the gifts, open them, and then roll the dice for 10 minutes. Every time you roll doubles you may swap your gift for someone else’s. It’s a hoot! Come join the fun!
We’ll wrap up the party at 1:45 p.m. with an ice cream social, provided by the Senior Center. (Suggested donation $2.)
Great card games
The Senior Center is still seeking people who want to play 500. We play 500 Friday afternoons at 12:30 p.m. We would like to see more folks come to play. It would be great fun to have multiple tables playing and a possible future tournament!
For more information about cards, meals or anything, you can reach the Cook County Senior Center Monday – Friday, 8-4 at 387-2660.
Cook County has a vibrant and active community of elders. Each week we will offer Senior News to highlight our senior citizens. This week’s submission is about the Cook County Senior Center, courtesy of Assistant Director Kristen Anderson.
