The Great Lakes Cruising Club held its annual Lake Superior Rally in Grand Marais August 19 – 21. More than 12 boats quietly arrived the evenings of Thursday and Friday and after a weekend of activities, set sail Sunday and Monday mornings for their home ports on other areas of Lake Superior. It was a weekend of dinners, a pancake breakfast, a presentation from the U.S. Coast Guard and a tour of the Coast Guard facility, and a beach clean-up in which many bags of garbage were collected.

All available transient slips were reserved for the event, and private slip holders, including the Dockside Fish Market and North House Folk School, contributed slip space as well. Remaining boats tied to the sea walls. Approximately 35 boaters from all over the lake as well as several from Grand Marais attended the event.

The GLCC is a non-profit membership-based boating organization that has been around since 1934. Since then the club has compiled and maintains an up-to-date boating database with information on ports, marinas, anchorages, and other relevant information for boaters on the lake.

Members of the Great Lakes Cruising Club, in Grand Marais from August 19 -21, enjoyed a full weekend of activities, including a rally dinner at Sven & Ole’s on Broadway. Before the dinner, they got a kick out of drawing their boat names in chalk on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant.
