On May 3, 2011, the Minnesota Department of Education announced the winners of the 2011 MDE School Finance Awards.
The Minnesota Association of Charter Schools is pleased that almost half of this year’s winners (62 of 129 winners) were charter schools. These 62 charter schools represent 40 percent of the 154 operating charter schools across the state in FY 2010.
For comparison, 65 winners were traditional districts (19 percent of the 340 traditional districts), and two were other units (3 percent of 61 other educational units -intermediate districts, etc.).
The award, given annually by the Minnesota Department of Education, Division of Program Finance, recognizes schools for meeting statutory deadlines for submission of audits and Uniform Accounting and Reporting Standards (UFARS) data, as well as meeting select fiscal, policy and personnel training criteria established under law and the Department.
