If you are dropping off or picking up kids from Great Expectations School, some changes are coming.
Beginning Monday, March 30, the drop-off/pick-up zone will have fewer designated parking spaces between the crosswalk and the corner. An area will be marked with a sign that says, “no parking here to corner.” A few spots will remain available on the east side of the crosswalk, with all other parking west of the crosswalk.
These changes are the result of several years of collaboration between Great Expectations School (GES), Cook County Law Enforcement, and the Cook County’s Safe Routes to School team who have been working together to make student drop-off and pick-up areas safer for children and their families.
A recent review of the process identified an area of risk regarding cars parking too close to the intersection of County Road 7 and the Gunflint Trail. While this is not an everyday occurrence, said GES Administrator Peter James, “We believe it needs to be addressed to reduce the chance of an accident.”
Please remember that no student transfers are allowed in either parking lot before or after school, as these areas are reserved for bus and staff traffic during these times.
If you have any questions, concerns, or feedback related to this change, please contact the GES office. Thank you for your cooperation with this change and with all of our on-going efforts to maintain student safety.
