The Cook County Tennis Association (CCTA), in partnership with the Cook County Community YMCA, held its third annual three-day tennis camp last week at the Grand Marais courts. The camp is for both youth and adults with some tennis experience who want to improve their games. Over the three days, participants receive 15 hours of professional instruction on all aspects of the game of tennis, which are taught through a series of fun on-court drills.
The camp set an attendance record this year with 22 enthusiastic youth and adults participating. The weather was beautiful all three days, although a bit breezy at times.
Instruction was again provided by Travel Tennis Camps, a Minnesota organization that specializes in putting on tennis camps in towns throughout Minnesota during the summer. The instructors were led by Scott Hansen, the head women’s tennis coach at the College of St. Benedict and his staff of three current or former college players.
Due to the continued positive response from the participants, the CCTA plans to offer the camp again in 2017.
