Grand Portage Tribal Council received a $25,000 grant to support intergenerational youth programming in Grand Portage from the Northland Foundation.
Between January 1 and March 30, the Northland Foundation awarded two dozen grants totaling nearly a quarter million dollars to nonprofit organizations, schools, and Tribal Nations within the region bounded by Aitkin, Carlton, Cook, Itasca, Koochiching, Lake and St. Louis counties.
A large portion of recent funding was awarded to children and youth programs and/ or intergenerational programming, including: $14,000 to support a summer jobs program for Iron Range area young people; $25,000 to support programming that connects youth with elders in Grand Portage; $1,000 to help support a mentoring day for high school students with disabilities and their parents; $25,000 to support programming for children and youth whose families are in transitional housing; and $1,000 to support environmental education for sixth grade students in Aitkin County.
