Grand Portage Port of Entry seizes cocaine

On Saturday, March 16, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Grand Portage Port of Entry seized 20.9 grams of cocaine.

The seizure occurred when a CBP officer referred a brown Chevrolet Equinox driven by a 43-year-old Canadian citizen from Sioux Lookout, Ontario. During an inspection of the vehicle, officers discovered 20 small baggies of a white powdery substance that later tested positive for cocaine.

CBP officers took the driver of the vehicle into custody and turned her over to the Cook County Sheriff ’s Office for possible prosecution.

“Working collaboratively with our state and local law enforcement partners is a key component of CBP,” said Port Director Craig Kalar. “Through that collaboration we were able to take these dangerous narcotics off our streets.”

To report suspicious activity call 1-800-BE-ALERT.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation’s borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
