Grand Portage Lodge & Casino announces fishing tournament

September 24 - 26 event will pay $5,000 in cash prizes to winners

 

 

Grand Portage Lodge & Casino will host their inaugural Fishing Tournament on the beautiful North Shore of Lake Superior. The tournament will take place Friday, September 24 through Sunday, September 26. Participants will fish for Lake Trout and Salmon (King and Coho) to qualify. Fishing will take place on Lake Superior.

A total of $5,000 in cash prizes will be awarded ($2,500 per class): 1st Prize: $1,250, 2nd Prize: $750 and 3rd Prize: $500.

Boaters can put in at the Grand Portage Marina, which is adjacent to the Lodge & Casino, in Horseshoe Bay in Hovland, or Grand Marais. Participants must register in advance and pay the entry fee at the Grand Portage Marina prior to starting in the tournament. In addition, participants must follow regulations on jurisdiction for the state in which they are fishing.

The entry fee is $100 per boat. All boats must adhere to Lake Superior boating guidelines. Launch and parking fees are not included. A Grand Portage fishing license is required if fishing in Grand Portage waters, which is available at the Marina for $10 per day for non-locals. The Tournament Director (Grand Portage Trustlands) will oversee nightly and final weigh-ins, which will take place in the Grand Portage Lodge & Casino parking lot. Friday and Saturday weigh-ins will be at 6:00 p.m. The final weigh-in will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 26 with winners announced and cash prizes awarded shortly after the final weigh-in.

Participants will be able to enjoy a free dance on Saturday, September 25, from 7:30 p.m. – 11 p.m. in the Grand Portage Lodge & Casino Event Center. Live rock and country music will be performed by “Flywheel,” a fun and talented Minnesota band. In addition, a free souvenir “koozie” will be given to each tournament participant to commemorate the event.

Participants must register in advance, then pay for entry fees and/or fishing licenses at the Grand Portage Marina prior to starting the tournament.
