Summer is just flying by. One can hardly believe it is Fisherman’s Picnic this weekend and Rendezvous Days next weekend.

The Elders continue to be very busy in spite of the weather. We enjoyed a fast trip to the berry farm to pick strawberries with the help of the mentor students, Kaylee and Douglas Pervais and their director, Lena Santos. Kaylee is the best and fastest berry picker, helping to pick several baskets for those Elders unable to go. Can’t wait to taste the jam and pies!

A small group of Elders enjoyed a walk to High Falls with pie and coffee at the Lodge on this month’s “Rez Ride.” Way to go to get your Wisdom Steps done!

The Elder Nutrition Program (ENP) collaborated with the North Shore Federal Credit Union to host a B-B-Q cookout during member appreciation week. The band Portage provided the entertainment with the Credit Union staff cooking all the delicious brats and hot dogs. The ENP provided all the salads, beans and desserts and worked with the Community Center to set up and clean up. The weather was beautiful, the food was great and all our regular congregate dinners and Meals On Wheels deliveries had delicious summer food. A wonderful way to enjoy the summer season!

Once again the Elders will be operating their fish booth, bingo and raffles for Rendezvous Days. All Elders are encouraged to volunteer during this weekend. There are many jobs from cleaning strawberries, baking cakes, selling raffle tickets and cooking just to name a few. Raffle tickets can be purchased at the C-Store, Nick’s or from the ENP. Prizes this year are two handmade quilts and a Kindle.

Please contact Carol Hackett or Patty at the ENP at 475-2655 or 2002 to sign up. This is our biggest fundraising effort with funds going towards the Elder’s Christmas party and holiday shopping trip. The ENP will be gifting two courageous Elder women, who are surviving breast cancer with a pink shawl during the Pow Wow. It is our great privilege to honor these women. We invite everyone to come and join us at the Pow Wow. Hope to see you there.
