Grand Portage 2018 walk/run winners


 

 

Staff report

Runners and walkers who participated in the 2018 Grand Portage Health Services walk and run events on Saturday, Aug. 11 had to deal with a lot of heat as temperatures climbed into the low 90s on Saturday.

One-mile walk

In the girls’ 10 and under walk Aurora Berniking took first in 13.17 while her twin sister Malia Berniking was one second behind her to finish second.

In the girls’ 11-20 age group Delaney Diver was first in 17:03 and Olivia Holm was second in the same time.

Women 21-35: Haley Hoffman, 11:38 was first and Lesley Zimmerman was second in 14:30.

Women 36-50: Gloria Hoffman won with a time of 11:40 and Lynzie Lightfeather was second in 13 minutes.

Women 51-65: Shirley Stevens crossed the line in 15:51 to win while Katie Swader finished in 17:30 to take second.

 

 

Women 66 and up: Yvonne Benson placed first in 15:15 with Arlene Johnson taking second in 16:25.

One-mile run

Dakota Saum was the first finisher in the girls’ under 10 division with a time of 7:13 with Sparrow Schmidt taking second in 7:34.

Elaina Deschampe ran a fast mile in 6:40 to win the girls’ 11-20 age group. Kylie Rainey placed second in 10:30.

Andrea Saum’s time of 18:40 bested the women’s 21-35 age group while Brooke Capa ran 10:47 to win the 36-50 age group.

Three-mile walk

Girls’ 11-20 winner was Isabella DeRuiter who recorded a time of 41:52.

Amy Davies’ clocking of 47:30 and Danielle Lyon’s time of 53:53 took the top two spots in the women’s 21-35 category.

Emma Carlson won the 36-50 age group with a time of 49:06.

Placing first in the women’s 51-65 age group was Denise Axtell in 36:12 and Kerry Hanson who finished in 48:34.

Jonnie Barton won the 66 and up category in 46:41 and Diane Bjorklund was second in 47 minutes.

Three-mile run

Girls’ under 10 winner was Lexi Keir, 38:50 with second going to Sydney Keir in 39:04.

Natalia Hernadez, 25 minutes and Arielle Pendegayosh, 27:58 had the top two times in the girls’ 11-20 age group.

Nichole Diver had the fastest time of the day for males or females. She won the 21-35 age group in 20:27. Sadie Libal was second in 34:41.

Amy Schmidt ran the second fastest time of the day, winning the women’s 36-50 age group in 20:40. Stacy Dudy was second in 23:17.

Sheryl Buday, 27:05 and Jane Bruce placed first and second in the women’s 51-65 age group with Lynn Creegan taking the women’s 66 and up title in 35:24.

Boys’ one-mile walk

Hunter Rainey and Marty Weber placed first and second in the boys’ under 10 age group.

 

 

Jim Sawyer and Walter Weber tied for first in the boys’ 11-20 age group with

Anthony Robinson second.

Bryce Premo won the men’s 21-3 age group (16:43) while Todd Zimmerman (11:09) and Clayton Reiny Jr. (13:25) were first and second in the men’s 35-50 category.

Ritz Villebrun won the men’s 51-65 class in 17:32 with Richard Garland only one second behind him.

Bob Salo won the 66 and up class in 12 minutes while James Thalacker was second in 12:37.

One-mile run

Kevin Doerr placed first in the under 10 race in 5:40 with Kannon Long second in 6:09.

Boys’ 11-20 age group winner was Dallas Christiansen, 6:02 and Zachary Bassett, 6:47.

Mike Goodheart won the men’s 21-35 class in 8:49.

Eric Impenu, 13:26 and Felix Bird, 35 minutes were first and second in the 66 and up group.

Three-mile walk

Levi Flores won the boys’ 10 and under 3-mile walk in 26:21.

Dane Powless (no time) won the 11-20 age group with Matt Davies taking first in the 21-35 class in 49:42.

Eric Carlson, 49:07 and Nlair Powless, 51 minutes were first and second in the 36-50 class.

In the men’s 51-65 race Braidy Powers blitzed the course in 34 minutes. Ken Morrison, 48:15 and Michael Douglas, 50:01 were behind Powers.

James Spry won the 66 on up division in 38:04 and Gary Zimmerman was second in 44:26.

Three-mile run

Boys’ 10 and under winner was Keith Diver III in 33:34. Adian Nyakundi and Keaton Christiansen tied for second in 33:34.

Korben and Peer were first and second in the 11-20 age group. No times were available.

Joshua McCormick won the 21-35 class in 21:31.

John Zamora, 22:05 and Bryan Keir, 28:08 were first and second in the men’s 36-50 age group.

Pat Dunleavy, 40:54, won the 51-65 class with Chris Zimmerman, 29:38 taking the win over George Rogers in the 66 and up field.
