This holiday season, Grand Marais Public Utilities Commission is once again offering their electricity customers rebates up to $12 for each string or decoration of energy-efficient LED holiday lighting they purchase through the end of the year. Grand Marais Public Utilities Commission is promoting LED lighting because it uses up to 95 percent less electricity than regular holiday lighting and lasts for many years. A typical household can save up to $21 per month during the holiday season.
While these financial savings are a big draw for consumers, LED holiday lights offer environmental benefits as well. “We want to do our part to reduce our country’s greenhouse gas emissions and make our community a little greener,” said Grand Marais power plant operator Mike Taylor. “We’re proud to spread the word about the difference that individuals in our community can make by taking energy-saving steps at home and in the workplace.”
