Grand Marais Playhouse ramps up for busy summer

The Grand Marais Playhouse is preparing for the return of the summer repertory in 2023.

Two shows will run alternating evenings the weekends of July 20 – August 13.

The Musical will be Shout the Mod Musical and a comedy yet to be determined.

The Playhouse performed Shout the Mod Musical back in 2011 with Hilja Iverson, Karen Blackburn, Kerri Bilben, Molly Hicken and Karina Roth. This summer Karina’s daughters Amelia and Greta will be taking the stage in the 2023 production along with Aurora Schelmeske. The Playhouse is looking for 2 more cast members. Auditions will be March 18 at 6:30 at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts. Performers should be able to sing and dance (in go-go boots!) and be late teens to early 30’s in age. Evening rehearsals will begin in June with performance dates on July 20, 22, 28, 30, August 3, 5, 11 and 13. This is a fantastic show full of classic 60’s songs and dance styles. More info is available by contacting the Playhouse at sue@grandmaraisplayhouse.com or going to the website grandmaraisplayhouse.com.

The show that will alternate evenings with the musical will be a comedy/farce that will be selected based on the number of people interested in the show. The comedy will rehearse evenings in May/June with performance dates of July 21, 23, 27,29, Aug. 4, 6, 10 and 12.

If interested in acting in the summer comedy, please complete the form online: forms.gle/JUrVEJDwyQPcDLTEAForms will be collected until March 15. A Comedy or farce will be selected based on the number of interested actors. Auditions will be in April.
