The North Shore Music Association announces the return of the Grand Marais Ole Opry! This locally beloved showcase offers a lively and heart-warming mix of classic country, old-time, and bluegrass music. Grand Marais Ole Opry VI promises a stellar lineup, headlined by the award-winning High 48s with Becky Schlegel. North shore old-time string band Up Jumped Trouble will get the crowd hopping. Talented young fiddler Martine Redshaw will shine alongside her father, John.
The High 48s play classic bluegrass with a modern attitude. They are passionate about music education and teach workshops and jam camps around the country, including their bluegrass jam camp for kids, Grass Seeds Academy. Becky Schlegel gives classic country, bluegrass, and folk her own spirited flair. She’s appeared on A Prairie Home Companion, been regularly featured on RFDTV’s “Midwest Country,” and is a Minnesota Music Awards Recipient. The High 48s and Becky Schlegel have been collaborating for years. For the Opry, they’ll perform favorites by artists from Loretta Lynn to George Jones, Merle Haggard to Emmylou Harris, as well as some originals.
Up Jumped Trouble is an old-time band focused on hard-driving fiddle tunes. They occasionally slow down to play a waltz or harmonize on a classic country song or two. You may have enjoyed the music of this talented north shore band at a local square dance.
Martine Redshaw, 16, is a classical violinist and fiddle enthusiast from Hovland. Her musical recognitions include 1st-place performances in the 2018 Junior Division, Laura Ingalls Wilder Days Fiddle Contest; and the 2019 Junior Division, Minnesota Old Time Fiddle Championship. John Redshaw, saxophonist, is a retired elementary music and band teacher who performs as part of a musical duo with his daughter Martine. Together with spouse and mom Kristen Carlsgaard, they also form the Flute Reed Ramblers and perform in multiple venues.
