The North Shore Music Association presents its fifth annual Grand Marais Ole Opry, a classic country, old-time, honkytonk, and bluegrass music showcase of local and regional musicians performing favorite classics and lesser-known gems. Emceed by WTIP’s “Classic Country” host Carl Solander, this year’s lineup features a bang-up group of Twin Cities talents called The Midwesternaires, GM Ole Opry Hall of Famer Gary Croft, and a marvelous multitude of Grand Marais musicians known as The Grievance Committee.
The show will be held January 13, 2018 at 7 p.m. at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts. Tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for kids under 18.
Minneapolis-based band The Midwesternaires plays classic honkytonk and early country music reminiscent of small-town bar jukeboxes. They are pleased to serve you up a fine slice of country music with sweet vocal harmonies on top. The group features Clive North and Tom Phelan on guitar and vocals, Marie Stier on fiddle, Davy Schmitz on pedal steel and electric guitar, Andrew Bartelson on drums, and Julie Young on bass.
Grand Marais Ole Opry 2016 inductee Gary Croft is well-known on the North Shore as a longtime member of Cook County’s Most Wanted. Having spent some of his earlier career treating folks in Nashville to his musical talents, we’re fortunate to have Gary sharing his beautiful voice and guitar skills with us here in the north country.
The Grievance Committee is a 13-member group of talented local musicians who first came together to perform bluegrass music for a Bethlehem Lutheran Church service in summer 2017. Featuring instrumentalists Bill Hansen, Kent Anderson, Mike Roth, Thomas Stamps, and Jonathan Hedstrom, the band offers an exciting array of rotating vocalists: Karina Roth, Hilja Iverson, Jessi Nicholson, John Bragstad, Alyssa Hedstrom, Ella Hedstrom, Amelia Roth, and Greta Roth.
