This week, Grand Marais, Minn., was chosen as a contender for the “Best Midwestern Small Town” contest sponsored by 10 Best Readers’ Choice, a division of the travel arm of USA TODAY.
Grand Marais is competing against 19 other small Midwestern towns, including Bayfield, Wis.; Lanesboro, Minn.; Galena, Ill.; Charlevoix, Mich.; and many others.
“This is the third national contest Grand Marais has been nominated for during the past three years,” says Linda Jurek, executive director of Visit Cook County. “This is a great way to introduce thousands of people throughout the country to our community via social and traditional news media.
“There aren’t many places that are located right in the midst of a protected wilderness area, an ancient mountain range, and the largest fresh water lake in the world, Lake Superior. There are many other reasons that this is a unique small town, but our natural amenities can’t be beat – come see what the buzz is all about!”
