Okay, so we know there won’t be a four-day Fisherman’s Picnic this summer. Just one more of the many celebrations canceled by COVID-19.
However, the Grand Marais Lions will host a 50-50 raffle and have a drawing on Sunday, August 2, at 5 p.m.
And a prime staple of Fisherman’s Picnic, the fish burger stand, will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday (July 31 and August 1) and on Sunday the stand will open at 11 a.m. and remain open until the fish runs out.
Lending to some needed frivolity, musicians will play in Harbor Park on Friday and Saturday. Taking the bandstand on Friday will be Joe Paulik (11 a.m. to 1 p.m.), Fred Anderson (1:30-2:30 p.m.), Bump Blomberg (3-4:30 p.m.) and Mysterious Ways (5-7 p.m.).
Saturday’s musical lineup starts with Joe Paulik (11-12:30 p.m.) Bump Blomberg (1-2:30 p.m.) Terry V’s Patio Party (3-4:30 p.m.) and Bug Dope (5-7 p.m.) ends the music before the Saturday night fireworks over the harbor.
All of the musicians will play for free, but donations will be accepted.
Half of the money will go back to the winners of the drawing, said Bob Spry, who has spearheaded the effort to sell tickets.
“The rest of the money will go to the club who disperses it through the community to non-profits throughout the year, added Spry.
