Grand Marais Public Library will host a writing workshop titled “Re-Visioning Story” on Sunday, November 19 at 2:30 p.m. This event is intended to be a follow up to the Readers & Writers Festival, and celebrates NaNoWriMo, National Novel Writing Month, which takes place each November. The presenter will be Kate St. Vincent Vogl, the author of “Lost & Found: A Memoir of Mothers,” featured on ABC News. She has presented to audiences around the world.
Do you have a draft of a novel or memoir under way but don’t know the next step? Not sure how to approach revision? Find out what you need for the story’s opening, narrative arc, and character connections — as essential in memoir as it is in fiction. Learn dialogue tips to bring your characters to life. Discover what’s essential to include at the end of your story. Get practical guidelines needed for the re-vision of your narrative. The re-visioning workshop will be limited to 20 participants. Those who want to attend should sign up at the library. The event is expected to be a learning experience with hands-on writing time as well.
For her novel-in-progress, Vogl received a 2017 Artist’s Initiative grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board and was honored with a residency at the Anderson Center. Her work appears in many best-selling anthologies, including “Listen to Your Mother.” Vogl graduated from Cornell University cum laude and from the University of Michigan Law School.
This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation by the Minnesota State Legislature; and by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. It is free and open to the public.
