Grand Marais Public Library hosts local professional landscape photographer and educator Bryan Hansel on Wednesday, February 20, at 6 p.m. Hansel is to present 100 Days on the Road: The Life of a Landscape Photographer, which documents a slice of his life with which many may be unfamiliar.
Each year, Hansel spends over 100 days on the road visiting national parks and the public lands across the United States. He spends his time camping, hiking, scouting, photographing the landscape and teaching photography. During this presentation, Bryan will present pictures, talk about the work it took to make them, what’s it like to run away from a sandstorm, shoot whitewater canoeing and photographing in the pouring rain. The presentation will cover a year of his adventures visiting locations such as Death Valley, the Black Hills, the Rio Grande River, the Boundary Waters, Glacier National Park, the Grand Tetons, Theodore Roosevelt National Park, the Great Smoky Mountains and more.
Hansel’s award-winning work derives from over 25 years of photography experience. He has been featured with over 100 publication credits from such notable journals as National Geographic, Outdoor Photographer, Lake Superior Magazine, National Park Traveler, Ocean Paddler, Canoeroots, Adventure Kayak, Canoe and Kayak Magazine, Backpacker Magazine and many more.
Hansel started a popular photography workshop in 2006 to help others learn the joy of photography. His programs take students to the best and often unknown locations in the northland and across the nation to National Parks. A resident of Grand Marais, Minnesota, Hansel is sponsored by Singh-Ray Filters and Northstar Canoes.
This event is free and open to the public.
