When the Grand Marais Public Library opened its doors to walk-in visitations this month, response ranged from positive to giddy. Patrons of all ages made their way into the stacks in search of new authors, audiobooks for upcoming commutes, and films for family movie nights. Some gravitated toward the computer stations or photocopier machine. A mom and her young son chose picture books together before indulging in an outdoor story time and lunch. Normal hours of operation are restored, and pandemic modifications are in place.
“We encourage families to visit together,” said Library Director Amanda St. John, who affirmed face coverings would be mandatory for visitors three and older, even if vaccinated. “Our staff is passionate about welcoming everyone back, and the patrons’ delight about being here is absolutely scrumptious.”
In addition to wearing face coverings, visitors must hand-sanitize and practice social distancing. Adult supervision is required for ages 11 and under. Patrons are asked to limit visits to thirty minutes while the library observes a 12-person maximum occupancy. Pickup window service, staff-selected grab bags, remote printing, and Wi-Fi are available options for anyone uncomfortable visiting indoors, or unable to meet the indoor visitation requirements.
