Grand Marais house damaged by fire





Firefighters had to take axes to the siding of the home owned by Brian Homolo to find and put out the fire located behind the chimney. No word yet on how extensive the damage was, but due to a quick response by the firefighters the blaze didn’t have much chance to get too big. The structure was intact, and the only visible sign of the fire was by the chimney.

Cook County Law Enforcement Center received a call about a house fire at 2441 W. Highway 61 at 12:28 p.m. on Thursday, December 15. The Grand Marais Fire Department, Maple Hill Fire Department, Grand Marais First Responders, and Cook County Ambulance were all paged and the ambulance was on the scene at 12:39, followed two minutes later by the Grand Marais Fire Department with Maple Hill not far behind.

Firefighters found the fire in the wall behind the chimney of the home owned by Brian Homolo. The fire was out at 1:23 p.m. and the area cleared at 1:53 p.m. Total damage caused by the blaze was not listed in the call to law enforcement.
